APU Financing

Trucking & Transportation › APUs

An auxiliary power unit (APU) heats and cools the sleeper and charges the batteries without idling the main engine, which saves fuel, cuts engine hours and keeps you within anti-idling rules. APUs are the equipment we finance most often: since 2011, Sunset Financial Group has funded more than 3,000 APUs for owner-operators and fleets.

Most APUs cost between about $6,000 and $16,000 installed, so APU financing keeps your cash free for fuel, insurance and repairs. We finance new and used units, installation and accessories in one agreement.

APUs We Finance

Diesel APUs

A small diesel engine runs a generator, air conditioning and heat for the sleeper, with run time limited only by fuel. The most common type we finance.

Electric & Battery APUs

Battery-powered systems run the sleeper HVAC quietly with no engine running, then recharge while you drive.

APUs With Particulate Filters

Diesel units fitted with a diesel particulate filter for trucks that run in states with stricter idling and emissions rules.

Generator-Only Units

Compact units that supply power for appliances and keep batteries charged, for drivers who already have bunk heat and cooling.

Fleet APU Packages

Two, three or more units for a small fleet on a single agreement, often with matching inverters.

Used & Rebuilt APUs

Used units from dealers and installers cost less up front, and we finance them just like new ones.

What We Have Financed

Single Unit

About $6,000 to $16,000 installed

One APU for an owner-operator, new or used, including installation.

Small Fleet Orders

Two to three units or more

Matching APUs and inverters for several trucks, on one agreement.

Units With Add-Ons

Inverters, shore power and outlets

APUs packaged with 2,000-watt inverters, shore power kits and extra outlets.

APUs we have financed range from about $4,000 for a used unit to more than $15,000 for a new, fully installed unit.

Finance the Whole Setup

An APU works best with the right accessories. These can all be included in the same agreement:

  • Installation and mounting brackets
  • Power inverters (2,000 watts and up)
  • Shore power kits
  • Extra outlets and quick-drain oil kits
  • Battery upgrades
  • Fuel lines and wiring

Why Drivers Add an APU

Burn Less Fuel at Rest

Idling a big diesel all night burns fuel and adds engine hours. An APU does the same job on a fraction of the fuel.

Stay Within Anti-Idling Rules

Many states and cities limit truck idling. An APU lets you heat or cool the sleeper with the main engine off.

Rest Better on the Road

A quiet, comfortable sleeper means better rest, and drivers who stay longer.
